GREEN Products Biodegradable and Compostable Declare Independence from Petroleum

Biodegradable Products from GreenPaperProducts.com

Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) June 29, 2010

GreenPaperProducts.com, an Eco-friendly company is working diligently in their category of disposable tableware to create a better environment for generations to come by limiting the amount of waste entering America’s landfills. By offering a GREEN products line of biodegradable and compostable tableware, Green Paper Products customers can be one step closer to an earth friendly way of life.

These disposable and compostable choices are a great alternative to the typical petroleum based products, reducing and hopefully eliminating much of our future dependence on petroleum. The potential environmental disasters coming to our landfills might be avoided by everyone taking a more proactive stance. Just one small step towards becoming more Eco-friendly can help and one of those first steps can be composting.

Composting is a process that can be done by anyone more easily than imagined, done nearly anywhere, and on a small or large scale. If a material is compostable, it breaks down into carbon dioxide, water and biomass at the same rate as paper. Compost is a combination of decomposed plants and animal materials and other organic materials that decompose into humus — a rich nutrient-filled material — which increases the nutrient content in soils. This creates rich, moist, productive soils that can help reduce or even eliminate the need for chemical fertilizers, and promote higher yields of agricultural crops.

More and more gardeners in the know are coming to love composting and taking advantage of it by producing more colorful yards and more productive gardens. Composting holds benefits that produce results visible today as well as in the future. Along with adding nutrients into the soil, compost has the ability to actually clean the soil it is introduced to. “Within 50-100 days of composting Green Paper Products, you can have clean, nutrient rich soils” said Steve Saks the company’s Co-Founder.

The University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago Installs the HyGreen Hand Hygiene System from Xhale Innovations

The University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago Installs the HyGreen Hand Hygiene System from Xhale Innovations

Gainesville, FL (Vocus/PRWEB) February 25, 2011

The University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago announced today that it has installed Xhale Innovations’ (XI) HyGreen® Hand Hygiene System. This is XI’s second HyGreen installation in the Chicago area.

The HyGreen Hand Hygiene System is designed to remind healthcare workers to wash their hands while incentivizing good hand hygiene practices. After cleaning their hands with soap or gel, healthcare workers place them under the HyGreen handwash sensor that sends a wireless “all clean” message to a badge worn by the healthcare worker. A wireless monitor above the patient bed searches for the message as the healthcare worker approaches. If it’s absent, the badge vibrates, reminding the healthcare worker to wash. All interactions are recorded in a real-time database

James Cook, MD, Chief of Infectious Diseases at UIC said “The Infection Control Program at the University of Illinois Hospital (UIH) sought an efficient method to remind healthcare workers about hand hygiene and to monitor this most important aspect of hospital infection control. After a review of all available new technologies, the HyGreen system was chosen because of its innovative, yet unobtrusive, provision of real-time feedback and database monitoring. The teamwork between Xhale Innovations and the multidisciplinary UIC staff provided a highly effective process of acquisition and implementation that resulted in successful installation and startup of this program. We are enthusiastic about the use of the HyGreen system to improve hand hygiene adherence and the quality of related data analysis, feedback and reporting.”

The HyGreen system was designed to reflect the recommended hand hygiene guidelines from leading industry experts, including the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Joint Commission. A study on the efficacy of the system will be presented at the Annual Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America Conference to be held in Dallas in April of this year.

“We’re pleased and proud to have been selected to be the provider of a technology solution for UIH in their hand hygiene improvement efforts. Improving patient safety is crucial to hospitals, healthcare workers and of course the patient and their loved ones who visit them while in the hospital. Not only will HyGreen help the University of Illinois Hospital protect patients from hospital-associated infections, it will also help the hospital bottom line.” states XI CEO Craig T. Davenport. “Recent changes in Medicare regulations have cut payments to hospitals for costs associated with certain HAIs. Using HyGreen, hospitals have a tool to help combat infections, enhance patient safety and save money.”

For more information on HyGreen, contact Elena Casson, Director of Marketing at (877) 574-9473 or email ecasson(at)xhale(dot)com.

ESFI Offers Practical Pointers for Keeping Your Office Safe from Electrical Hazards

ESFI Offers Practical Pointers for Keeping Your Office Safe from Electrical Hazards

Arlington, VA (Vocus) May 11, 2010

The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) is encouraging employers to promote electrical safety during National Electrical Safety Month this May by increasing employee awareness of the electrical hazards that may exist in an office setting.

The modern office environment has changed dramatically in recent years as a result of new office technologies and an increased reliance on electrical equipment. Improper use of this workplace equipment can cause serious electrical shock and burn injuries.

“Electrical accidents that occur in an office environment are usually a result of faulty or defective equipment, unsafe installation, or misuse of equipment – specifically, extension cords, power strips, and surge protectors,” says Brett Brenner, president of the Electrical Safety Foundation International.

National Electrical Safety Month is a great time to review workplace electrical safety practices. Effective electrical safety programs increase safety awareness, provide established safety guidelines, and ensure the proper tools and technology are used to mitigate the risks associated with electrical safety hazards.

Awareness of electrical hazards is critical to preventing accidents and creating a safer work environment. Following basic safety principles can help to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you:

Surge protectors protect equipment, but they do not provide protection from the potential hazards of an overloaded circuit. Make sure the electrical load is not too great for the circuit.
Avoid overloading outlets with too many appliances. Never plug in more than one high-wattage appliance at a time.
Unplug appliances when not in use to conserve energy, but also to minimize the opportunities for electric shock or fire.
Inspect electrical cords once a month to ensure that they are not frayed, cracked, or damaged.
Do not place electrical cords in high traffic areas, under carpets or across doorways where they pose a potential tripping hazard.
Instead of relying on extension cords and power strips, consider having a licensed electrician install additional outlets where you need them.
Ensure that all electrical products and equipment are certified by a nationally recognized testing laboratory such as UL, CSA, or ETL, and read the manufacturer’s instructions carefully.

For more information about ESFI and National Electrical Safety Month, visit http://www.electrical-safety.org.

The Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) is dedicated exclusively to promoting electrical safety in the home and the workplace. ESFI proudly sponsors National Electrical Safety Month each May, and engages in public education campaigns throughout the year to prevent electrical fires, injuries, and fatalities.

microGAFFER® From Visual Departures Offers a Tougher, More Practical Alternative to Duct Tape

Visual Departures’ microGAFFER downsizes the gaffer tape used by movie and TV pros, giving householders a better, more practical alternative to duct tape.

Stamford, CT (PRWEB) September 06, 2011

Old-fashioned duct tape can be used for many adhesive purposes. Funny thing is, it’s not supposed to be used on ducts because it can become brittle over time, and even catch fire. Besides, for most of the things people use duct tape for, there’s actually a better kind of tape. It may not be a household name, but gaffer tape is a super-strong, waterproof tape with a rugged cloth backing, rather than duct tape’s usual vinyl. If it needs to be repositioned or removed at a later time, gaffer tape leaves no adhesive residue. Those qualities make gaffer tape the tape of choice for many professional applications—and now, new microGAFFER from Visual Departures Ltd. makes it a practical choice for everyday household and fix-it uses.

Gaffer tape gets its name from TV and movie sets, on which the chief electrician is called the gaffer. In studios and on location, it’s used for everything from securing lighting hardware to taping cables safely to the floor. It’s also an old standby for photographers and videographers, doing things no piece of hardware can do, be it clamp, clip, or thumbscrew. But the downside of gaffer’s tape—and of duct tape too—is that it comes in rolls so big and heavy that they’re a nuisance to carry around.

An ingenious solution to that problem, microGAFFER is high-quality professional cloth gaffer’s tape made pocketable. Each roll is just an inch wide, as opposed to the two-inch width of a standard roll of either gaffer’s tape or duct tape. And a roll of microGAFFER starts out at a diameter of less than 2.5 inches, as opposed to a standard roll’s 6.5 inches. That’s also a much smaller diameter than a roll of duct tape. (In fact microGAFFER is roughly the size of a roll of electrical tape, though not meant for insulation purposes!) Using microGAFFER instead of duct tape means never having to remember where to find that big, heavy roll of tape—because microGAFFER is small enough to stash in a pocket.

microGAFFER is there whenever needed, leaving hands free for hammer, nails, or whatever else it takes for around-the-house tasks. And at a scant 2.2 ounces, as opposed to the one- to two pounds of a full-length roll of duct or gaffer tape, a roll of microGAFFER won’t break a toe if it’s dropped! What’s more, because it’s strictly cloth-backed, it tears more easily than duct tape—and its one-inch width means there’s no need to tear it lengthwise to get a narrower piece, as often happens with duct tape. (And don’t forget that it doesn’t leave a residue like duct tape and electrical tape.)

Visual Departures Ltd.’s microGAFFER is available in multi-packs of four eight-yard rolls, priced at $ 21.50 per pack. The Classic Multi-Pack includes two rolls of black microGAFFER, one of gray, and one of white. The wild-and-crazy Fluorescent Multi-Pack includes one roll each of brilliant orange, magenta, green, and yellow. The intense colors of Fluorescent microGAFFER are eye-catching, to be sure—but don’t dismiss its usefulness in color-coding and labeling all kinds of stuff. Unlike shiny, plastic-backed duct tape, anything written on microGAFFER—with a pen, pencil, or felt-tip marker—goes on easily and doesn’t rub off.

For more information, visit http://www.microgaffer.com, e-mail sales(at)visualdepartures(dot)com, or call (800) 628-2003. Visual Departures Ltd. has been designing innovative products for working photographers since 1982. The company created the original Flexfill® collapsible reflector and Steadybag® camera support. It also distributes the full range of Rosco, Dedolight, and Hitech filter products.

Prepping for the Holidays: Painting Tips from CertaPro Painters Founder Charles Chase

Prepping for the Holidays: Painting Tips from CertaPro Painters Founder Charles Chase

Oaks, PA (PRWEB) October 9, 2004

Sprucing up for the holidays doesn’t have to mean turning a room upside down or breaking the wallet. Help can come in the form of a lick of paint. If you want to take on the task yourself, house-painting pros CertaPro Painters Founder Charles Chase shares tips on how to paint like a professional without the expense:

Step One: Choosing Paint

Be sure to choose the proper type of paint for the job:

Â•         High-gloss: shiniest, washable, durable and used to accent surfaces. E.g. Trims.

Â•          Semi-gloss: less shiny but still durable and washable. Good for bathrooms.

Â•          Pearl/satin: has a bit of sheen, washable. Good for bathrooms.

Â•          Eggshell: use if no shine is desired, washable, durable and good for use on imperfect walls. Good for moisture-free rooms.

•    Flat: commonly used, not very durable or washable, unless the whole wall is wiped clean. Best for bedrooms or moisture-free rooms.

Step Two: Preparation

It’s worth spending time preparing surfaces to ensure clean lines and protect surfaces, which don’t require paint:

Remove any nails from the wall. Fill holes with a spot of spackle across nail holes. After drying for an hour, sand with sandpaper.

The step everyone wants to avoid is washing the walls. To do so will remove dirt and also save an extra coat of paint.

Cover the floors with drop clothes, overlap each by a foot to reduce the chance of paint slipping through.

Take the time to remove door knobs, electric switches and other items that you want to keep paint-free.

To avoid paint filling the rim, punch some holes with a hammer and nail around the paint can rim.

Step Three: Painting

Painting with a roller and an edging brush saves an enormous amount of time. With the help of an edging tool, you can apply paint along an edge easily.

DO prime the walls if going from one extreme color to another. Always use tinted primers with bold colors like red, blue and deep green.

Begin with the ceiling, then walls, doors and woodwork and finish with the floor.

Start with a large “M” pattern on the wall, using your roller brush, then will with horizontal strokes.

Save a small amount of paint in a glass jar for touch-ups later.

Step Four: Clean-Up

Keep the room ventilated for at least 24 hours before bringing furniture back into the room.

If you plan to use the roller brush and brushes again, clean them immediately.

To avoid accidental splatters, clean the rim of the can before re-attaching the lid by placing a paper towel on top of the lid, then hammer to secure.

Mobile Company SMS.ac Looking to Hire Up To 100 Employees from Areas Ravaged by Hurricane Katrina

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) September 14, 2005

If an upside can be found to the tragedies that recently befell the Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, it is that out of loss, there sometimes emerges opportunity. SMS.ac, Inc. (http://www.sms.ac), the mobile data communications company that is host to the largest community of mobile consumers in the world is coming to Louisiana—to hire, that is. The Company today announced it is focusing recruitment efforts in areas hardest hit by Katrina.

“As a result of the hurricane, there are a lot of displaced and highly qualified professionals that are now available for hire,” said Ken Smith, vice president of human capital at SMS.ac. “Primarily, SMS.ac is seeking software engineers, project managers and business development candidates.

“Upon hire, SMS.ac will provide relocation assistance for new additions to the SMS.ac team from that region and we will help them get situated in San Diego,” added Smith. “What these individuals have endured is unimaginable for most of us. SMS.ac hopes that it can do its part to put some lives back on track that were derailed by the worst natural disaster the U.S. has ever known.”

Of the mostly Louisiana-based organizations that SMS.ac is working with to locate qualified candidates, two are located in New Orleans, the Louisiana Technology Council and the regional chapter of Women in Technology International. Candidates interested in interviewing with SMS.ac for engineering, project management and business development positions should send their resumes and a cover letter to hr@corp.sms.ac. Ken Smith asks that candidates reference “Katrina” in the email subject line, to expedite response time.

Earlier this year, industry standard FierceWireless called SMS.ac one of the top 15 emerging wireless companies in the world, naming the Company to its “Fierce 15” list. And market intelligence firm IDC calls SMS.ac one of the top emerging wireless players to watch in 2005.
